Stand Up and Be Counted
for What You Are About to Receive!

Earn your own cannonball and a key to the city!

Whether a military or civilian salute is appropriate ... we salute you!  We have no doubt that you are about to rock this swim!

As part of the 22 pounds strapped to my body, I will be swimming with a cannonball which represents the burden carried by our disabled combat Veterans.  It is a 6-pound, 4-inch diameter replica of the authentic cannonballs fired from Fort Mackinac & Fort Michilimackinac canons during the War of 1812, in the Straits of Mackinac where I held the Mighty Mac Swim for all those years.

I thought it was only fitting for you to have a chance to earn your own cannonball … mounted as a trophy!  You and your teammates certainly deserve this symbol of the burden you are lifting off our courageous Veterans through your fundraising and gallant swim beyond the horizon and back on their behalf!

I will venture a guess you have never received an award like this before.  Not only are they unique trophies, they make great paper weights!

We will also award finely-engraved personalized plaques and the Finisher Awards are pretty cool also.  All who "Reach the Beach" will be presented a “Key to the City.”  That's a key to Chicago, the 3rd largest city in America!

Thank you for teaming with me as open water swim warriors for our American heroes!  We hope these awards serve as a never-ending reminder of how your generosity and efforts changed lives.

We salute you!  Yes, we do!

Here is a "Key to the City" example.  Think "Windy City!"

A photo of our Key will be posted soon with details.

Four-person teams will engage in both team and individual competitions.  If your team is all about speed, you will want to enter the Relay Race!
If distance is the name of the game for your team, the Distance Competition is for you!

Relay Race Divisions & Awards

  • Men’s Division

  • Women’s Division

  • Coed Division (2/2 or 3/1 male-female mix)

Team Awards

All 4 members of the relay team to finish the 22-mile course with the fastest time in each division receive a Division Champions Cannonball Trophy.

All members of finishing teams receive a Key to the City Finisher’s Award.  Even team members pulled from the competition contributed to their team’s success in completing this epic challenge!

The team finish time is recorded when the last of all team members swimming into the beach cross the finish line.

Individual Awards

The 3 men and 3 women finishers who are the overall fastest in the field, measured by averaging distance swum per 30-minute interval, receive a personalized Fastest in the Field Award (engraved plaque).

To qualify for this award, swimmers must be active (not disqualified) and may not have missed a turn in their team’s rotation or have exited the water before completing an interval.

Certificate of Achievement

All relay team members receive a Certificate of Achievement, recording their team’s finishing time and place of finish.  Certificates also record the individual team member’s total distance swum on the 22-mile course, their fastest and average speed for a swim interval (distance covered in 30 minutes), and how they rank among the field.
